Desmia sp. (most likely Desmia funeralis, possbly Desmia maculalis)

Notes:

Beautiful Black and White Moth. I know it is not the Eight-Spotted Forester Moth because he/she lacked the characteristic orange markings.

Check this out:

http://www.carolinanature.com/moths/desm...

The link states: "Nearly identical to Desmia maculalis, but lacking a small white spot on top of head."

OK, you may check for others in your area and it is possible that as a pragmatic view (most common one, "no" others around) it is the Grape Leaffolder. In "my" area there are too many around whick looks very similar and separating is not possible.

"Desmia funeralis and Desmia maculalis can not be reliably distinguished from a photograph and need to be physically examined." - Bugguide.net
