Hirundo neoxena neoxena

Description:

This is an adult (RHS in pic) and a young one. Welcome Swallows are small, slender birds with finely pointed wings and distinctive forked tails. They are deep blue on the head and back, with dark chestnut wings and tail. From the face to the chest they are orange-red. (https://teara.govt.nz/en/birds-of-mounta... )

Habitat:

Perched on a trailer in a fenced off area near the Royal Albatross Centre at Taiaroa Head.

Notes:

There were actually two young ones, the other to the right of the adult but it didn't make the final editing cut!
