Bitterweed

Description:

A member of the Aster family. From the "Field Guide to the Wildflowers of Georgia and Surrounding States": usually found in overgrown pastures, disturbed areas, and roadsides. Grows up to 2 feet tall. Flowers are not quite an inch wide, with 8 to 10 yellow, 3-toothed ray flowers and a central, dome-shaped disk of tiny yellow flowers. Blooms spring to summer.

Habitat:

Georgia Piedmont / Indian Springs State Park - located on a sandy, rocky hillside next to Big Sand Creek.
