Description:

Photo take in a mangrove area near the coast this is a very small bird i think is fishing, no so common always near the water, about 10 cm tall, black-blue colors white on the chest and neck area a little red on the wings.This small kingfisher breeds by streams in forests or mangroves. The nest is in a horizontal tunnel up to a metre long made in a river bank. The female lays three, sometimes four, eggs.The Green Kingfisher is 19 cm long and weighs 27 grams. It has the typical kingfisher shape, with a short tail and long bill. It is oily green above, with white markings on the wings and tail, and a white collar around the neck.

Is a resident breeding bird in the lowlands of the American tropics from southern Mexico south through Central America to northern Argentina. Wikipedia.

Agreed, the spots are stronger, however, several images that i've seen show quite a bit of color morphs for each of the species. :-) as a whole though, I would have to agree.

I agree Bayucca the spots ares stronger and also the red chest as well i have seen it before many times but this is the first time i can take a shot of it.

Some others, where I see now that the stripe is also present in about the same intension as in Amazona, but what about the white spots?? They really seems to be stronger in Americana:

I agree the ranges definitely overlap. Although there seems to be a little confusion on the net (seriously! LOL) images show both birds called two different things.

Just what I can see with my eyes: Amazona should have a darker or stronger "stripe" below the head and the white spots are stronger in Americana, like in yours. But I might be completely wrong, just my impression. Range might be the same for both. What do you guys think??
