Hooded Merganser

Lophodytes cucullatus

Description:

Males have a beautiful "hood" that ofetn lays flat, but when excited or alert it puffs up to reveal the white filler. Otherwise a beautiful Black and orange/brown mix to the body and wings and black and white neck, with prominent bright yellow/orange eyes

Habitat:

Spotted at wetlands in Viera Florida. They like other ducks are very at home in water and can be seen in many wetland environments in Southern U.S at this time of year!

Notes:

Pair of males puff and strut and compete for a female with a beautiful display

There was female in area and these two "boys" were going to town trying to get her affection!
