Description:

Large dark paper wasp. The abdomen is practically black. Thorax and head are dark rusty brown. The face is yellow which means this one is male (females have a dark reddish brown face).

Habitat:

Spotted feeding on golden rod in an overgrown area in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Notes:

Found mostly in eastern and southern United States.
