Buteo virginianus
This is a Mother Great horned owl and her baby, near my house. I have posted pictures of the adult owls on here before. I have watched this couple nest, only to have their first nest destroyed by 85 mph wind. I have watched them "renest" in a smaller tree and I have waited patiently for the babies to hatch. Now, after watching them for 4 months the parents have finally had success! One little baby (not sure if there is another smaller one in the nest or not) is now popping his fuzzy little head out of the nest. His proud and protective Mother kept a close eye on me while Dad watched on from a small bush in a field! Can't wait to watch this guy grow up!

Ha ha ha! Thank you so much Noah Citizen! You are too kind! I must admit, it's a little bit of both! I drive a lot for work and I take my camera with me EVERYWHERE! You never know when you are going to see something amazing! ...but in all honestly, I am mostly lucky! Colorado is an amazing place for wildlife and I am always looking!
Either you are really lucky to have all these species around your home, or you spend 24/7 outside looking for amazing series to share!
Once again this is amazing!
Thank you Raeven!
Lovely!
Thank you for the kind words Geodialist! I have a canon T2I and a telephoto 100mm-300mm lens. I use both auto and manual focus but on this occasion I think I simply used auto focus!
Great photos of a great spotting! What kind of camera gear did you use to take the shots? Did you use manual focus?
These are our owls! I often wonder about them. Thanks for posting pictures of their progress.
You should swing by and check them out! You always say that about my pics, but I crop most of my pics, so I'm never as close as you think! :)
Oh those are great!! I drive by them on 36 a lot, but I'm going so fast I can't see anything!! I'll have to swing by in the next few days. You were really close!
