A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Lontra canadensis
This mammal is three to four feet long with the tail making up 1/3 of it’s body length. The body is dark brown, the tail slightly compressed ending in a rounded point.
Wetlands near rivers, streams and lakes
This animal was sighted on a lake which is about a mile south of the Mackinaw River and surrounded by woodlands from the river to make the border around this lake. This is my first sighting of this species in the wild. As it was swimming by it clearly saw me but was unconcerned. It was a great experience.
