Pseudechis porphyriacus
My favourite venomous Australian! This red-bellied black was on the lawn at Moffatdale Ridge winery where I was having lunch. It seemed quite happy slithering along the lawn (quite unusual to see one out in the open like that). A beautiful healthy specimen with vivid colouring, somewhere between 1.5 and 2 metres long. Despite being venomous and widely feared, red bellies are generally docile and will retreat rather than attack if threatened.

Thanks Tic and Mona!
Beautiful
beautiful shot..
He is a handsome specimen - looks like he's been lunching at the winery too - can just see a bulge in pics 1 &2 maybe that's why he's out in the sun. Great pics Shanna !
Thanks Adarsha!
Awesome series...
Definitely close enough!
Hi Alex, I was a fair distance away from it, I was up on a verandah. Probably 15 metres.
Amazing snake! How far away from it were you when you took the photo?
Looks like he ate something BIG
Love the colors by the way
Likewise Neil, looks like you have some awesome reptile pics in your collection, I will definitely be taking a closer look. : )
Terrific spotting! I love the black & red colors, especially in the 4th photo. I'm very glad to be following you on Noah now. It's great to find other reptile lovers on here and see their spottings, especially when that person is in a completely different part of the world. :)
What an attractive snake! Great spotting!
Thanks everyone - he's certainly a stunner!
He's a beauty Shanna!
nice series!
How about that! last photo is my favorite.
Eyes are sharp...
A whole new snake lesson! Beautiful!
wow , looks scary!
I have probably seen more pythons than red-bellied blacks, but they are definitely prolific. We've had quite a few in care over the years.
Beautiful. These must be the most prolific snake on the east coast. I seem to find 5 of these to one of any others. Maybe it's just who you hang out with.
