Xylaria polymorpha
This fungi had two separate structures but both were club-shaped projections arising from moist wood. Some had black bases with tips covered with a white substance and others were black and of no definite shape.
Spotted growing off the inside of a moist sawn-off wine barrel being used as a plant pot. They grow from bases of rotting wood or injured tree stumps.
This fungi is an ascomycete with the asci or sac-like structures containing ascospores being found in the blackened areas. On the white parts are found asexual spores or Conidia.
Family: Xylariaceae
