Painted Daisy

Tanacetum coccineum 'Robinson's Giant'

Description:

Common names: Painted Daisy, Pyrethrum. Perennial plant native to Caucasus and looks somewhat like a daisy. Zones: 4 - 9. Height: 24 - 36 inches. Spread: 15 - 18 inches. Bloom time: May - June. Bloom Color: White, pink or red.

Habitat:

Light: Full Sun. Water: Average - well drained. Non-native, but not invasive. Borders, cottage gardens, cut flowers.

Notes:

Pyrethrum can also be used to make a very safe botanical insecticide. It acts directly on the nervous system of aphids, mites, leafhoppers, cabbageworms, and other insects. It will not harm fish, mammals, or plants. Mix 1 tablespoon of freshly ground dried flowers with 2 quarts of hot water. Add a little soap and let sit for a while. Spray directly on affected plants in the early morning, to avoid harming active pollinators.
