Tall Bonnet

Mycena cystidiosa

Description:

Tall delicate mushrooms about 100mm in height. Conical or dome shaped moist shiny caps with dark centres, gradually becoming paler towards the margin. Slightly striated. Gills creamy coloured. Slender, smooth, dark and very narrow stipes.

Habitat:

Moist forest floor in leaf litter- damp eucalyptus forest.

Notes:

Not the best photos to illustrate their height but according to Bruce Fuhrer, these are perhaps Australia's tallest Mycena - the stems could be up to 200mm high. Not seen here, but these fungi have abundant hair-like rhizomorphs with minute capitate tips. These mushrooms merge so well with the leaf litter that they can be easily over-looked.
