Firefly Beetle larva

Nyctophila reichii

Description:

Did not measure it and now cannot remember, but the head is at the left end in the first two pictures and it appears to have just 3 legs each side. The head appears to retract like a tortoise.

Habitat:

Edge of town, semi-desert.

Thanks for all the IDs Maniacval, I have updated the pages. In English the adult is called a Firefly or Lightning Bug, both being generic names.

Thanks for the help bayucca.
Apart from the bright markings, which are barely visible on mine, this one appears to be a very good match: https://www.flickr.com/photos/7391668@N0...

Beetle larva. Try Lampyridae first, then Lycidae. I tend to Lampyridae, without checking...
