Velvet Shank

Flammulina velutipes

Description:

Tough nut to crack for me - small mushroom, brick-red in colour, growing in tight clusters hardly above the soil. Diameter of individual carpophores roughly 3 to 4 cm, gills well spaced and ramified toward the edge of the cap

Habitat:

Found on shores of a small lake in Jura range, totally surrounded by mixed, but mainly coniferous forest. This cluster was growing from a buried tree stump.
