Common Moorhen

Gallinula chloropus

Description:

Small bird, rather duck-like in shape. Bill is reddish towards the end where it attaches to the body. Vent area has white feathers and white feathers are present on the sides of the wings too.

Habitat:

We were driving down the highway when we realized that we were crossing over a water body. We stopped for a bit and saw this bird and a few others. there was considerable vertical separation between me and the birds.

Notes:

Also called Common waterhen and Swamp chicken.
