Sri Lankan Wild Elephant

Elephas maximus maximus

Description:

Large dark coloured elephant with small ears, and pink like dry skin areas. These had no tusks.

Habitat:

Near Sigirya, Sri Lanka, jungle area but with some farms and development. This herd of elephants is often seen trying to cross the road at the end of the day or in the early morning. This was at 6.44 pm.

Notes:

We looked for them on the way up to a massage but only could see large trees snapped and stripped of its bark which showed us that there were Elephants around! On the way down they were there! AMAZING! We were unfortunately on the "wrong" side of the road and I did not dare to go closer. It was raining heavily so I had to quickly snap some pictures. AWESOME!
