Collector urchin

Tripneustes gratilla

Description:

About 15cm in size. Dark in colour with white spines. The pedicles are also white, with a dark or black base. Collector urchins tends to "collect" debris.

Habitat:

Spotted at Pulu Cinta - Sulawesi, a sandy atoll reef. Collector urchins are found at depths of 2 to 30 metres in the waters of the Indo-Pacific, Hawaii, the Red Sea, and The Bahamas.
