Boto-cor-de-rosa (pink river dolphin)

Inia geoffrensis

Description:

It is the largest freshwater dolphin. Males are larger than females. The adults have a pink color, more prominent in males. Has a specialized body for echolocation. The dorsal fin is small, but it is too broad, and its pectoral fins are large. This feature, along with their average size and the lack of fusion in the cervical vertebrae give you a great maneuverability to navigate the flooded forest and capture their prey. They feed mainly on fish.

Habitat:

They are found in the Amazon River basin and basin of the Araguaia River in the North of Brazil. These photos were taken at the Institute of protection to pink river dolphin located on the banks of the Black River (affluent of the Amazon River) in the city of New Airão-AM
