Red-mouth Bolete

Boletus subvelutipes

Description:

The stipe was reddish with some brown streaks. The cap was orange and had some tan around the margin. The stem, flesh, and pores immediately bruised a dramatic blue when I knocked it over.

Habitat:

Small bolete growing on the ground in a deciduous forest.

Notes:

The fruiting bodies are poisonous, and produce symptoms of gastrointestinal distress if eaten.
