Texas Bark Scorpion

Centruroides vittatus

Description:

Hard to see pic, sort of, he was feisty, and I had to take a quick "from the hip" photo, before it bolted!

Habitat:

Semi dry micro habitats in the lower Hill Country. This one was found at the Holiday Inn Express, just south of Marble Falls. I left it where it was.

Notes:

Remembering my 16yr old daughter getting stung by one in her room! NEVER heard that girl swear like that! My wife was stung on the foot by a baby one! She cussed too!

This is what I like about this particular area of Texas.... The Bio-diversity! We have Coral snakes Eastern Coachwhips, Copperheads, and about 20 miles east of my home, Alligators, and Cottonmouths. All from the eastern U.S.

THEN we have Bark Scorpions, Western Diamondbacks, Brown Tarantulas, Rhinochelius (Long-nosed snakes), Western Hog-Nose snakes, Western Massasaugas, Black tailed rattlers, Tortoises, Pepsis wasps, etc. All from the western U.S.
