Heleomyzid Fly

Description:

This fly was up high on a tree trunk but I have to know what it is :) This gray fly has a bright, yellow abdomen.

Habitat:

Coast Live Oak tree in mixed forest

Thank you for the suggestions, stho002! They both look close.

I just don't know. The closest water was about a mile away. There is a dry creek bed there but no water for over 6 months.

Hi Cindy, This looks like a Shore Fly, Family Ephydridae. I didn't find any with a yellow abdomen.
