Yellow-bellied Marmot

Marmota flaviventris

Description:

These marmots have grizzled coats with rusty browns on chest, tail, and legs. The nose is a grayish white with speckles of darker hair. Feet are well-furred and ears are small and rounded. Weight varies greatly by time of year with the marmots being heaviest just before going into hibernation. Males are marginally larger than females on average.

Habitat:

High alpine and subalpine meadows with nearby talus slopes or rocks.

I believe they are about the same size and they are both in the genus Marmota, so are closely related.

This Marmot looks a lot like our Ground Hogs or Woodchucks. Are they similar in size as well?
