Black Rat Snake

Pantherophis obsoletus

Description:

Large black snake. Not afraid. Curious about us. About 4 1/2 feet long! Whitish belly.

Habitat:

Wooded rocky hills of central PA

Notes:

It was very big and not afraid of us at all. I pet it's hind quarters and instead of bolting like a garter (garden?) snake, it turned and started sniffing us out. Very cool! Thought it might follow us back to vamp the way it was curious.
