Spotted salamander

Ambystoma maculatum

Description:

Relatively robust salamander. Colorful with yellow, orange and/or reddish spots on a dark background.

Habitat:

Adjacent to water and under a log. This colony of salamanders are found under the same logs year after year.

Notes:

This adult was found under a log in a pasture in proximity to a small oxbow of shallow standing water in proximity to the Enoree River in Spartanburg County.
