Eastern Yellow-Bellied Racer

Coluber constrictor

Description:

23-70" (58-177.7 cm). Slender, agile, and fast moving. Adult uniformly pale blue, bluish-green, olive-green, gray, or brown above. Belly cream to bright yellow. Young gray with darker gray, brown, or reddish-brown blotches down back and dark spots on sides. Scales smooth, in 17 rows (15 rows at vent). Anal plate divided.

Habitat:

Abandoned fields, grassland, sparse brushy areas along prairie land, open woodland.

Notes:

A big Texas shout out, to the Irving Texas Police Officer who saw me photographing birds, and asked if I was interested in seeing and perhaps photographing a snake. This spotting is dedicated to you Officer, you know who you are, and I and others on Project Noah thank you. Photographed where found.

Gary Chan, I was pretty close, but there was no need to worry, this snake is not venomous.

Thanks Adam, I had a friend who needed to install a computer system for a business, and was moving the system from the Milwaukee area, to Irving Texas. He needed a second driver. I was that driver, and while he installed the computer, I went looking for wildlife. I found many birds, and this snake. I will post more of my spottings in the weeks to come.
