This nestling is being closely watched by one of the parents in the tree just next to the nest tree...can you make out Mom? These are the same owls as in a friend's spotting a week or so ago: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/112...

Thanks, Raeven...they were fun to watch!
Fantastic! Baby's wonderful and Mama's gorgeous. (I absolutely love the fourth picture)
Mary, this was the first wild one for me...I see them all the time in our rehab facility, but never before this in the wild...it was fantastic! I'd seen the mother sitting on the nest at another time, but this was the first chick. If you're out in the woods, look for pellets at the base of a tree...it's usually a bit messy around an owl nest...other than that, I know no more! ;-)
Thanks for the comments!
Lovely spotting :)
Adorable spotting - I am so envious as I have yet to see a horned owl in the wild, and I just know they live in the woods near me...Great photo series and what a cute chick!...
fantastic captures!
That doesn't surprise me! Construction...expansion...blah blah blah! I'm glad you're keeping an eye on them...someone needs to. I was on my way home and I did think about calling you...but got sidetracked!! ;-) The baby was happily playing in his nest one minute...then he either saw me or mom told him that I was there...he became super still and just stared at me...it was kind of cute...but that was when I left. This was about 3-ish in the afternoon. Hopefully CDOT will leave them alone like they said...
Hey, that's my baby! Isn't that weird I knew it was him just from the picture! I see mama too! Glad you got a chance to see them finally.
I'm really sad, CDOT is starting a project right along the road and is going to tear down the tree. I called the Department of Open Space and they said they will work around the nest until the owls are gone. But still, CDOT was working right under the tree all day today and in the early evening I went to check on them. The baby was there, but no sign of the parents. I hope they will try not to disturb them!
Thank you!
Nice Series!
