papilio zelicaon
The anise swallowtail caterpillar in my garden has begun to pupate! It selected a new location from yesterday and started laying down a layer of silk on a fennel stalk. You can see the silk sling encircling the body near the top and the silk support on the bottom. I am not sure if I will be able to see the pupa forming and will have to wait until the morning. Here is the first spotting of this caterpillar on May 15: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/111...
Urban house fennel plant.

@HaydenG: It is on a fennel plant and I only see anise swallowtail in my yard. I have never seen a black Swallowtail. They are very similar.
The two of them have very similar caterpillars.
Are you sure it's an Anise Swallowtail? Looks a lot like a Black Swallowtail to me.
Thank you fedgarcia13!
