House Finches

Carpodacus mexicanus

Description:

In honor of Fathers' Day! An adult male finch feeding his demanding fledgling chick. I watched him get sunflower seeds from our bird feeder, carry them to the chick in a nearby tree, and put the food into its beak. I think he shelled them for the fledgling, too. It's so funny to see bird parents continuing to feed fledglings as big as themselves!

Habitat:

My yard. We've had several families of house finches this year, often coming to the feeder.
