Barberry Family (Berberidaceae) Also known as 'Inside-out flower'. Perennial from rhizomes. Grows in moist shady forst and low to mid elevations. The petals and sepals turn backwards. The seeds are commonly dispersed by ants. The species is named after the explorer Capt. George Vancouver.
