Common Sanddragon

Progomphus obscurus

Description:

Dark brown abdomen with 6 yellow spots on top ending in clublike abdomen tip. Brown and yellow stripes on thorax.

Habitat:

I spotted this one in a gravel parking lot about 25 yards away from the banks of the Missouri River at Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area. Typically, adults are seen from early summer to early fall, flying low over streams or perching on banks and nearby rocks.
