Falco peregrinus
Mostly black back with a brown streaked chest. There is a black hood on the head with black coming down from the eyes.
We were hunting them in a mixed grass prairie north of town.
This bird belongs to a wildlife biologist friend. He has 4 raptors that he uses during the hunting season to get birds with instead of shooting them. Today we took out his female and male peregrine falcons, and these photos are of the female. She took out a hen American wigeon and a drake green-winged teal, and the male missed a bird today. He takes them out almost daily, so I will try to go with him again to get photos of his goshawk!

Did you ever get to see it stoop?
Thanks Ashley!
I've added it, Dixie :) They are spectacular Mark! Never tire of seeing them
Fabulous experience Ashley. Spectacular birds.
Well! I'll just have to change the wording because Peregrine falcons are found in Texas naturally. I can add captured animals that are natives. How about that?
I would love to Dixie, but you put in the rules of the mission that there can't be captive animals, and this was someones falconry bird
Would you be so kind to post this to Biodiversity of Texas? I love these birds. I have a few pics of them too.
Well worth the time spent, Ashley.
