Butorides virescens
A small heron common in throughout SC. These birds have a glossy cap and a deep chestnut or rust colored neck with a white line down the front. The legs are yellow. Green herons usually hold their necks close in against the body.
This one was photographed in Waterloo SC but I have seen many in Francis Marion National Forest.
