Spangled Skimmer dragonfly (female)

Libellula cyanea

Description:

A female Spangled Skimmer dragonfly with a slightly malformed abdomen. I spotted this dragonfly in a large meadow far from the central wetland area. Two anatomical features are visible in all of the photos: the black and white pterostigma located near each wing tip; and the female terminal appendages located at the end of its abdomen. Habitat:

Huntley Meadows Park, a 1,425 acre wetland area in Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Related Resource: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/huntl...
