Heliothryx barroti
This female was so fast I couldn't read her rear license plate...Short beak, long tail, this is the only hummingbird in Costa Rica with an all white underside. Only the male of the species has the purple crown.

I shot about 40 frames with my 200 zoom from across the waterfall, just to get these 4. There was no getting a fix on her, as she was constantly moving...
They are so quick. I think it's a miracle there are any pictures at all.
Wow! The fact that you caught her at all is fantastic! She's lovely! I'm not a bird photographer, but I ran across this vid a while back. Really interesting! It may help with a hummer that fast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pBO-7eHV...
Beautiful! What a great name for it, too.
If she continues hanging out at the waterfall, I'll try to get some better shots of her in the coming weeks...This is the first time I have seen this species in my 5 years living and photographing this area...
wow!
Beautiful - & I believe the first of this species on Project Noah!
Please can you add the scientific name (Heliothryx barroti) so we can take this off of the unidentified list.
