Dacelo novaeguineae
A large fluffy king fisher with strong beak. The weblink gives a good description. The Kookaburra's plumage is not colourful but blends extremely well with the australian native vegetation.
woodland territories.
A common sight and sound but is one of my favourite australian birds !

Thank you Nature Lover. We are very lucky to be living next to a National Park (one of many) and know that there will be no development around here. You are right about PN and the opportunity to hear about and see human and other animal interaction.
I wish all humans would consider how lucky they are to have such beautiful and interesting creatures around them and tread more gently on this planet.
Wow! How cool to have these just flying around where you live! That's why I love Project Noah. You get to see what other people have right in their backyards. :) Great pics! :)
Thanks Melissa
Wonderful photographs!
Thanks Laura & Satyen. I was sitting in the car quite a distance away so as not to scare him off. he was intent on something on the ground - they do this when they spot dinner - a little skink perhaps !
I was lucky that he was so still..
Nice series!
What a lovely spotting, Leuba! I like the third pic, where he's looking at you. "What is that weird box thing you're pointing at me?" Great pics of such a wonderful bird!
