Siam Weed

Chromolaena odorata

Description:

1 - 2 feet high, clusters of pinkish white flowers with spider like arms projecting from the centers. Fairly common in this area. Not cultivated.

Habitat:

Weedy plant (but beautiful!) growing around the clearing at the nature lodge, sen menorom, mondulkiri, cambodia. Wiki says this is an extremely problematic invasive species in most of the areas it has been introduced, including SE Asia, India, Australia, many countries in Africa and other areas as well. Native to southern North America from Florida to Mexica and the Caribbean, there are irradication programs in place in many countries to try to get it under control to save agricultural crops and native plants as well. It is very flammable and contributes to extensive burns in some areas.

Notes:

Introducing species is sooooo problematic.
