Unknown egg sac

Description:

Appears to be an egg sac of a spider, but cased in mud... Any ideas to what species of spider or insect that constructed this?? Approximately 1/4 inch in diameter, 6 inches above the ground suspended from sea oak grass.

Habitat:

Northeast U.S.. Woodland edge.
