Lithobates catesbeianus
Always known them as green frogs, but what kind? This is the smallest and friendliest out of four in the pond. The others are three to four times this ones' size. The other pond has smaller frogs that are similar, but look completely different up close. (Working on getting photos of them too!)
Thank you Maria. I've gotten the images to load properly for me. Please let me know if there are an issues on your end.
So nice that you have been able overcome your daughter's fears. The last two photos are still not showing up so you may want to upload them again.
Thanks @Goody! I'm thinking that the frogs in the other pond are green frogs because they do have that line. And @Maria, it's in a jar because it climbed in it! Lol, it's a super friendly little thing. Showing our daughter who's been having nightmares about "Mr. Hoppy" and letting her sister put him back in the pond have stopped the night terrors, thankfully. :D
Nice spotting - why is the frog in the jar? It took me a bit to distinguish green frogs and bullfrogs, but that ridge going around the green circle by its eye is the giveaway. Welcome to Project Noah!
Very nice spotting but photos #5 and #6 don't seem to be loading up for me. The way to tell a bullfrog from a green frog is by the fold of skin that goes around the tympanum (circle of skin behind the eye). Green frogs have a dorsolateral fold, which is a ridge of skin that runs from eye to thigh. Bullfrogs do not have a dorsolateral fold. Look at this spotting for an example of a green frog (especially photo #2): http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/636...
