Eastern Box Turtle

Description:

Native tortoise with a domed and hinged shell. When threatened, the box turtle can close the shell to protect its legs and head. Colors are variable but usually are a brown base with yellow and/or orange markings on the shell, legs, head and neck.

Habitat:

Temperate forest.
