Spotted Cucumber Beetle

Diabrotica undecimpunctata

Description:

This is a small beetle, a little longer than a lady bug. All the information I found on it talks about them being an incredibly destructive insect that eats the leaves of plants like cucumber plants, beans, melons and pumpkins. Which doesn't really explain how I found this one on a flower... but there it is. :) There are two kinds of cucumber beetles - the striped and the spotted.

Habitat:

Flower near a pond in Chicago
