A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Almost looks like it was spray paint on the leaves of the blackberry (as shown) but I have also observed the same "orange stuff" on wild roses and pine trees in several areas ... Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Sacramento River Trail in Redding, and Burney Falls. When touched, it rubs off onto your fingers, leaving an orange stain.

This could be a Phragmidium species or maybe something like Gymnoconia peckiana...
