Lacy-head Leather Coral

Sarcophyton tenuispiculatum

Description:

A soft coral that looks like a hairy mushroom. Its surface is leathery, and its polyps' tentacles seem to be perpetually extended.

Habitat:

Found at depths of 1 to 30m across the Indo-Pacific.

Notes:

I see this type of coral in almost all dive sites in the Davao Gulf, usually in shallow waters. This particular coral was photographed at a depth of less than 5m.
