Arpophyllum giganteum

Description:

It is a large orchid that prefer warm weather to cool. It is an epiphyte with pseudobulbs cylindrical, laterally compressed and wrapped with tubular bracts, the leaves are lanceolate shaped ribbons, slightly falcate. Flower in an inflorescence terminal 40 cm long in clusters arising from a mature pseudobulb. It blooms with many flowers in a spiral. This species has leaf-shaped flat belt.

Habitat:

This species is native from Central America, for example in Costa Rica. Flowering occurs from late winter to primavera.

Notes:

National Botanical Garden of Belgium. I post it in the wild orchid mission because it can probably be found in the wild in Central America.

Just wanted to share it here because is an orchid of an unusual shape. They are cultivars in the National Botanical Garden of Belgium. I wonder if they can relaly be found in the wild in Costa Rica :-)
