Ghost Crab

Ocypoda quadrata

Description:

Has elongated eye stalks, square carapace. One claw larger than the other.

Habitat:

Found on a sandy beach in rincon.

Notes:

Both females and males have one claw larger than the other. Found from Rhode Island to Brazil. Feeds on carrion, is a predator and can strain food out of wet sand. Known to predate on sea turtle eggs and hatchlings. Can adjust their color to match the sand they live in.
