Dung beetles / tumblebugs

Canthon spp.

Description:

These beetles are often found rolling dung, but can sometimes be found on carrion. They are most associated with cattle pastures, where dung is more than plentiful.

Notes:

My daughter and I were driving the county roads, looking for birds and other creatures when we happened upon this wonderful set of parents. They were busy moving their ball of cattle dung across the dusty gravel road. We got out and watched them for several minutes, marveling at their teamwork.
