Ruddy Turnstones

Arenaria interpres

Description:

A stocky, medium-sized, brightly patterned shorebird with short orange legs and bright reddish sides in breeding plumage.

Habitat:

Breeds on rocky arctic coasts and tundra. On migration and in winter, mostly along rocky shores, but also sand beaches and mudflats

Notes:

Even though I kept my distance, I don't think they were too happy with me - it looks like they're giving me the evil eye in photo #1 :)
