American Carrion Beetle

Necrophila americana

Description:

This carrion beetle is actually two, one on top of the other. Not sure if they are mating. But there were at least a dozen here eating on a dead snake. They alldisappeared when I got near, except for these two.

Habitat:

Spotted on Auger Hole trail in Gorges State Park, NC
