Hooded Vulture

Necrosyrtes monachus

Habitat:

Hotel grounds, not far from the sea. The area is not built up and is quite rural outside the town.

Notes:

The Senegambia Hotel in The Gambia feed the vultures (and the black kites by default) each morning and they start to gather from far and wide for about an hour or so prior to the feed. After the food (raw chicken remains from the kitchens) the vultures avail themselves of the groundsman's sprinkler system, followed by a sunbathing session.
