Harlan's Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis harlani

Description:

Subspecies of red-tail hawk. I believe this to be an immature dark-morph harlan's. Couldn't tell it was even a red-tail at all until it flew and I saw what it looked like underneath. Was convinced I had found a miniature golden eagle for awhile ;)

Habitat:

Found in the early morning in a tree on a private ranch. Open fields with stands of oak trees.
