Painted Stork

Mycteria leucocephala

Description:

Tall bird which is aptly named because it seems an artist has used up all the colours of the pallete on the feathers, which are white, black, pink with a touch of reddish hue...add the orange bill and you have one colourful bird. The wings look striped in black and white while folded

Habitat:

This one was spotted in a remote region of the Khijidiya Bird Sanctuary near Jamnagar.

Notes:

Quite common in the Kutch region of Gujarat. This is an arid region so there is large assembly of birds where ever there is a water...even a small puddle will do...the smaller the water body the more closely are the birds packed...so great for a person like me shooting with an aim-and click camera.
